Monsoon Bites

Yes, this is what we eat when it rains with the pitter-patter playing outside.

Roasted corn on the cobs with a dash of lime juice and rock salt smeared over.Roasted ground nuts and boiled sweet corns.

Hot tempuras (of chillies, potatoes,onions,bell peppers,egg plant) with a cup of hot ginger tea to wash it down.

Roasted Papads with a sprinkle of onions and coriander leaves sprinkled over it !

Last but not the least, is Moongdal's Khicdi(rice with lentils)and a dollop of ghee(clarified butter)over it + spicy Mutton curry...... bliss! Serve them in glazed earthern wares to add the desi touch. 

                             Enjoy the rains till they last, after all...
                     "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to  pass .... 
                     it's learning to dance in the rain.

Nothing goes a waste

 While driving through a village bazaar during my last road trip I happened to pass by a  roadside display of potteries and pickle jars. The simple lines of these beige and white pickle jars appealed to me a lot. I could not resist, and picked a couple of them for a steal! 

Isn't it a beauty! Now to add a bit of a zing to it ...

    Nothing goes a waste, see these dried twigs finds a place on the bathroom wash basin.The colour coordinates goes perfect with our bathroom tiles too. 

                                                What do you say ?

The pickle jar gets a face lift with the dried twigs,complementing each other.There is a masculine starkness in this vignette, perfect to uplift my husband's mood I guess!   

Happy me,with my new finds from the ordinary things around me.

Raindrops on ...

          The 'after-the-rains' look of nature is so green and refreshing,
        just as one feels after having a bath!
        See below you will know what I mean :

         I know what you are reminded,yes of course the lyrics of the song from the movie    'Sound of Music' - Raindrops on roses...

Cooking oil tin cans converted into planters,wisely reused.  

 Those fallen leaves in a newly created puddle of water....catch the reflection. 

You all must be knowing that I cannot stop myself from 

getting the blooms indoor,so here they are my lovelies! 

How I like to hunt  around  the house for placing them,

and somehow something catches my fancy. 

Here is today's find and  a little bit Xtra added to it.

My glass water jug, but there is more to it....

a piece of lace was lying around in my sewing kit,thought that would make it look dreamy if I just tie it around the jug !

Monsoon Wedding

India as a wedding destination has greatly grown in recent years. A trend is catching up to get married in the exotic Indian locations. Couples are saying "I do" in the "Desi" way,with the "Band, Baja and Baraat" The most popular locations for destination weddings in India are the heritage palace hotels of Rajasthan,beaches of Goa and Kerala.

Indian weddings are known for their glitz and regalia, it is a celebration amidst traditions and customs, colours, jewelleries, silk, elaborate embroideries, flowers, mehndi and mithais(sweets) and many days of celebrations. 

The weddings are mostly solemnized under a " mandap"-  a four pole canopy decorated with flowers and drapes.Vibrant and colourful flowers like the marigold, rose and jasmines are widely used.The air smells of the fragrant flowers, perfumes, itr, gulab jaal, henna and everything turns magical with the sounds of the " shehnai" playing in the background.

 

    and how can we forget the wedding feasts, an elaborate culinary affair cooked and served in Indian brass wares or copper utensils like the Handi, Kadhai and Tawa. Infact the dishes prepared are named after the utensils wherein they are cooked like KarahiChicken, Paneer Tawa masala and Dum Biryani Handiwala !  

    Talking about Indian weddings,how can we forget the" nine yard story " of the sarees of India comprising a wide range from the Kanjeevaram silks, Benarasi brocades to Zardozi embroideries and many more. Now here comes the bride and the groom in true Bolllywood style, dressed up in their fineries.Which are essentially a bridal lehenga or saree, and the groom in a Sherwani or silk Dhoti / Kurta.  
          Along with their friends and relatives the couple performs dances and rehearsed group performances on the famous wedding specific Bollywood tracks. Followed by an exchange of speeches from the parents, friends, relatives and well wishers who bless the couple.  

               Indian weddings have come a long way from the days when brides were brought in palanquins to the present where they come in the latest luxury cars.One can study its changing facets from the traditional to the contemporary and the result is an  eclectic admixture of  an artistic edifice.
